A. Umair Janjua, MD

Psychiatrist

About Me

Welcome! My name is Dr. Janjua. I am a board-certified psychiatrist and a native of Atlanta. I have trained extensively in psychopharmacology and in various psychotherapy modalities. After finishing residency training in General Psychiatry at Emory University School of Medicine, I completed an additional year of fellowship training in Forensic Psychiatry at Emory University School of Medicine and completed a diploma in Executive Coaching from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. During residency training, I received the Walter Wellborn Endowed Fellowship in Psychiatry. I also hold an adjunct faculty appointment with the Emory University School of Medicine.

Since medical school I have been involved in clinical research investigating treatments for depression, schizophrenia, addiction, cognitive disorders, neuropsychiatric issues, geriatrics, and neuromodulation. I have presented at national and international conferences and am published in peer-reviewed professional journals. Both my clinical and research interests reflect my passion for understanding what makes people change and understanding how to guide clients most effectively toward living more fulfilling lives. I enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds and cultures and believe everyone has an individualized story to share. I believe in a patient-centered approach where medication management and psychotherapy are most effective with a multi-layered approach which integrates a deeper understanding of one’s own self using a biopsychosocial model.

My experience ranges from a vast array of clinical settings treating various psychiatric illness. I integrate across multiple psychotherapeutic modalities: interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-commitment, mindfulness, and dialectical-behavioral therapy.
