Susan Carlin, PhD

Licensed Individual Marriage and Family Therapist

About Me

I am a licensed individual, marriage and family therapist that has been practicing for over 35 years in marriage counseling. Life presents all of us with pain and adversity.  I have helped patients learn to cope with these situations through the tools that I present in therapy. We all want to be understood and recognized for who we are, but frequently emotions and situations get in the way. Things like anxiety, depression, crises, traumas, addictive behaviors, or unhappy relationships intervene and disrupt our lives.

I also understand that in a therapeutic relationship, confidentiality and empathy are vitally important. This is why I personally return all phone calls and schedule all appointments myself.  I respect each person’s individuality including religious ethnicity, culture, and belief system. My goal as a therapist is to use the process of psychotherapy to foster trust and individual and interpersonal growth. Clients describe me as supportive and empathic but also interactive and direct.

On a personal note, I have been married for over 35 years and have two grown children.  I love animals and have 1 dog and 3 horses. Roscoe, my chihuahua, will occasionally accompany me in sessions. In my free time I enjoy jewelry making, gardening, hiking, and reading.
